International Baccalaureate (IB)
The final two years of study offered by El Plantio International School is the International Baccalaureate programme.
This course incorporates the best practice of post-16 exam systems from many different countries, which gives the IB its international flavour: It has global recognition and is recognised by the best universities across the world.
This pre-university programme of studies guarantees an outstanding academic level to our students compared to other traditional systems of education. International Baccalaureate students not only go through a highly demanding curriculum, but also will have to meet three added requirements to obtain the diploma:
- Students follow a Theory of Knowledge course aiming to stimulate critical thinking about knowledge and their experiences in and out the classroom.
- Students participate in CAS activities (Creativity, Action, Service) where through artistic productions, sports, and services to the community the youngsters put in practice their ability to share and help others.
- Students write a 4,000 words Extended Essay, an original investigation helped by one of the teachers who acts as a tutor.
The students may opt to follow a humanities or science based programme of studies. Within each branch there are further option subjects to allow the student to adapt their studies to their cosen university course.
The International Baccalaureate students should understand the society in
which they live, not just their immediate surroundings but also the wider world where they play an active role.
The IB develops internationally minded people who are inquirers, knowledgeable and reflective thinkers, good communicators, principled, open-minded, caring, risk-takers and balanced.
The best guarantee of quality of this programme is the success our students have when they start their university courses after leaving our school
